Each year, hundreds of visual artists from across Victoria take part in a variety of competitions from visual, literary and digital arts mediums.

Lens Mist Photography Award and Exhibition offers $5,000 for Best Photograph, $2,000 for People's Choice Award, $500 for Youth Award and $250 for the Voter's Award.

Artists were invited to scour the suburbs and sites of Kingston in response to this year's theme: 'I never noticed that before'.

All finalists will be exhibited at the Mordialloc Food, Wine and Music Festival, DFO Moorabbin and G3 Artspace in 2018.

Please note applications are now closed. Click here for further information.

Each year Kingston Arts welcomes artists and writers of all ages and abilities to enter our most exciting visual art, digital art and creative writing competition. Artz Blitz is an adrenaline pumping, heart-racing creative challenge that is enjoyed by over 100 visual artists and creative writers each year.

The creative chaos ensues when the secret theme is announced on Friday night and entrants have 24-hours from this point to create their work and deliver it to the Kingston Arts Centre in Moorabbin by 6pm the following day. Previously, creative writers were asked to respond directly to selected visual artworks one week after the exhibition launch and base their written piece on the respective artwork. In 2017, Kingston Arts seeks to improve Artz Blitz for writers by updating this former model; instead seeking written pieces in response to the theme at the same time as visual artists. Writers will no longer be asked to respond to an exhibited artwork but produce a fiction or non-fiction work in their own right, up to 150 words in length, which fits within the constraints of an A4 page.

Kingston Arts has increased the 1st prize award for creative writers to $1,000 (up from $500 in all previous years) and introduced a 2nd prize award for $300 in addition to a youth and junior writing category, matching the value of the 1st prize for visual arts. In doing this, Kingston Arts seeks to demonstrate greater support for both the work of visual and literary artists in the community and provide greater opportunities for writers to be recognized for their own unique abilities.
