Public Program: Artist Talk
Join local artist Chris Aspland for a cup of tea in the gallery as she discusses her concepts, techniques and fascination with the role of cutlery in our lives.
Saturday 9 September, 2pm. This event is free - no bookings required. All welcome to attend.
Chris Aspland presents her first solo exhibition, Canteen – The Joy of Cutlery, which explores shape, shadow and movement through the patinas of aged surfaces made unique by everyday wear and tear.
The focus of Aspland’s is a collection of old-fashioned silver and bone cutlery. Aspland seeks to captivate the age and individuality of each piece reflected through passages of time. Aspland finds a sense of light-heartedness and intimacy in the relationship between each piece and the owners who might otherwise discard these precious objects.
"My intention is to represent the uniqueness of each utensil to capture the beauty in ageing, and to create rhythm and drama in the placement of the objects."
