Bolero
TWO SHOWS! 2PM AND 6PM
‘Teatro Flamenco’ brings to the Australian stage, for the first time, a dance interpretation of Ravel’s most famous masterpiece, ‘Bolero’. It is a dance of seduction performed with the passion and fiery sensuality so befitting this amazing piece of rhythmic music. Overriding the music and instrumentation is the rhythm, which is consistent with the unrelenting and driving 12 count of the ‘Flamenco’ Compas (Rhythm). The dancers crave to dance to the deceptively simple melody which glides seamlessly over the rhythm, but they are by necessity, almost totally driven to dance to the call of the rhythm...and only the rhythm.
‘Teatro Flamenco’ was compelled to perform Ravel’s Bolero in an earthy ‘Flamenco’ context to the music of live Flamenco Guitars and percussion instruments prevalent in the Flamenco repertoire, rather than the simplified use of the clinical CD.
