Requiem by Megan Evans
Kingston Arts proudly unveils our brand new gallery, G3 Artspace, at the Shirley Burke Theatre in Parkdale with artist Megan Evans' Requiem as the inaugural exhibition.
Evans is a multi-disciplinary artist, and her latest work comprised of over 500 photographs, two video pieces and drawings, explores connectivity, planetary degradation and loss.
A poetic sadness underpins the new body of work Evans presents in Requiem as this time she aligns bees with the natural environment: like frogs, bees are gradually disappearing with its destruction. Consequently, some things we have all taken for granted could soon disappear. Through the process of pollination, bees are not only responsible for one in three mouthfuls of our daily food but also the reproduction, and hence survival, of certain plants.

Fosse by Naomi Troski
City of Kingston’s new contemporary art gallery, G3 Artspace, presents 'Fosse' the new work from sculptor, Naomi Troksi.
Composed of plastic lattice and rope, Naomi Troski’s overhead installations create suspended organic forms that express the subtle changes observed in nature. In her work Fosse the transient nature of light is investigated to reveal its transformative qualities on shape, colour and surface texture throughout a day. The fluctuations of light and shadow produce effects that are dramatic and subtle, affecting the dimensions and boundaries of the work and how it is perceived and experienced within the space.
Exhibition Open Friday 1 June - Tuesday 26 June
Highlights from the Civic Collection
City of Kingston's Art Collection is diverse in its origin and content. The collection derives from three of five Councils amalgamated to form Kingston Council in December 1994 namely former Mordialloc, Chelsea and Moorabbin Councils. As such, the works in the collection reflect the values of those communities at various historical stages.
Highlights from the Civic Art Collection consists primarily of the work of professional and amateur 20th century artists, as well as some nineteenth century historical paintings, most significant of these are the two paintings signed by the artist known now as 'Petrie'. Donated to the Mordialloc Council by former real estate agent A.J.Hill, the paintings are in very good condition given their age, and Petrie's depiction of Mordialloc Creek and the McDonald's Homestead are a unique document of the era.
