Public Art Opportunity
Expressions of interest are now closed.
We are inviting expressions of interest (EOI) from artists to develop concepts for a series of free-standing sculpture/s at various gateway entrances across the proposed Youth Recreation Zone at Le Page Park.
The curatorial theme for this commission is to be site-responsive, memorable, and cohesive with the existing landscape and proposed Youth Recreation Zone. This commission will be in collaboration with the appointed Active Recreation Zone consultant, Convic, to ensure that the Public Art activation compliments the overall design of Le Page Park.
It is important that the artwork is sensitive to the site’s cultural and social history, reflects its unique character and stories, and embodies the community’s vision for the park as a vibrant hub for high activity, older youth engagement, and social or family connection. This approach will help ensure the work is valued by both residents and visitors alike.
Commission Aims:
- Contributes to a sense of place and belonging for the local community in Cheltenham
- Attract visitors and draw diverse audiences to stay and enjoy the public open space and facilities
- Adds to the cultural fabric of the City of Kingston Council which cultivates a more inclusive, activated, enterprising, connected and celebrated environment.
- Be made of high quality, durable materials which can withstand weather and attempted vandalism
Artists are invited to submit an EOI in response to the brief below. A shortlist of three artists will be selected by the appointed assessment panel to proceed to concept development. The preferred concept will be selected to proceed to detailed design to deliver the selected concept.
Artists submitting an expression of interest must include the following details:
- An outline of response to the site and brief including why the project is of interest and how the work will be experienced (1 page maximum)
- A short artist biography and current curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages), including details of experience delivering projects of similar scale and budget with 2-3 supporting visual images
- Please note a concept design is not required at this stage.
EOI submissions will be accepted from 30th of September to the 21st of October.
Artists should respond to the EOI via the Smarty Grants link
