The production also contains loud bangs, balloons and confetti.

The Royal Opera House are offering a schedule of free broadcasts and live content that audiences can access for free anywhere, anytime across the globe, bringing both ballet and opera to every home and every device.

The Story:

Alfredo Germont and the courtesan Violetta Valéry fall in love at a party in Violetta's Paris salon. Alfredo is determined to cure Violetta of her tuberculosis, and the couple leave Paris and begin a contented life in the country. But Violetta's happiness is destroyed when Alfredo's father Giorgio Germont pays her a visit.

Violetta’s scandalous relationship with Alfredo is jeopardizing Giorgio Germont’s daughter’s engagement, and Germont persuades Violetta to leave his son. Heartbroken, Violetta promises not to tell Alfredo why. Alfredo is stunned when Violetta disappears, and decides she must have left him from self-interest. He confronts her at a Paris party and leaves her. Only when Violetta is dying does he learn the truth.

Lucette, known as Cendrillon, lives with her father, her step-mother and her two step-sisters. The household are busy preparing for a ball. Cendrillon, who is not allowed to attend, sits by the fire and dreams about it. The Fairy (Cendrillon’s fairy godmother) enters and conjures up a coach, horses, a stunning dress and glass slippers for Cendrillon, so she can go to the ball without being recognized. But she must leave before midnight.

The Prince is miserable because he must choose a wife from among the party guests. But when an unknown beauty (Cendrillon) arrives at the ball he is enchanted. The clock strikes twelve, and she rushes home, losing one of her glass slippers in her hurry.

Cendrillon's stemother and her daughters dismiss the Prince's interest in the 'unknown stranger' and say the Prince spoke contemptuously of her. Cendrillon decides she is too sad to go on living and leaves for the forest. The Prince, too, has gone to the forest looking for the mysterious princess from the ball. Hearing each other, they reaffirm their love and fall into an enchanted sleep.

Months pass. Cendrillon's father, who found her very ill in the forest, has been caring for her. She has been talking of the ball, the Prince and the forest and she begins to believe that it may all have been a dream. But when princesses from all over the land are summoned to try the glass slipper, Cendrillon realizes she may have been at the ball after all...

The Winter's Tale story
When Leontes, Sicilian king, becomes convinced his pregnant wife Hermione is conducting an affair with his closest friend Polixenes, King of Bohemia, he is so enraged he banishes her newborn child, while Hermione apparently dies of grief. Sixteen years later, the child, Perdita, having been raised in Bohemia by shepherds, is in love with Florizel, son of Polixenes, who forbids their marriage. The lovers travel to Leontes’ court seeking happiness, which they find – in ways nobody expected.
