Artist Call Out - Are you a Kingston Creative Affected by Covid-19?
JOIN OUR GHOST LIGHT SERIES - WE WOULD LOVE TO PROFILE YOU!
While we wait and wonder when we can reopen our venues, the team at Kingston Arts have placed a Ghost Light on our empty stages. You may wonder what a Ghost Light is, it is also known as an Equity Lamp. It is an old theatre tradition of leaving a stage light on. It is practice that has been done around the world for decades, if not hundreds of years. The first reason is very practical, the last person to leave the theatre and the first person to return can see the edge of the stage so they don’t fall. The second reason is far more romantic and superstitious. It is traditionally lit for theatres thought to be inhabited by ghosts, the light keeps them from becoming mischievous, bumping into props or disturbing equipment while everyone is gone.
It seems natural to bring back this tradition in a time with so much uncertainty, to remind us that we will return to celebrate the music, the comedy, the drama and joy that brings life to our stages. A small measure of comfort, a guiding light to say we are coming back after this long intermission!
So, while our stages might be empty, we are still so full of talent and we are calling out to all our local creatives who call Kingston home. Whether you are a playwright, a poet, an author, a musician, a dancer, a theatre company or something different entirely or you know of someone in Kingston who fits this bill – you can register your interest by filling in the form below.
