Russell Fletcher was born in Melbourne, and trained as an art teacher. However he soon faced the challenge of the commercial world. Some years later, as an art director of an advertising agency he decided to travel overseas with his young family and finally settled in Toronto, Canada, working as a designer - later he became manager of an art studio there. On his return to Melbourne, he successfully established an art studio and directed same for nearly twenty years. As a designer, he has five series of Australian postage stamps to his credit. Later he returned to painting - using all media but recently specialising in watercolour - winning over fifty prizes in that medium. His work is in municipal, corporate and private collections in Australia, Japan, Europe, U.K. and Canada. Russell Fletcher is an exhibiting member of the Victorian artists Society, The Sherbrooke Art Society and councillor in The Guild of Realist Artists.
