Kingston Sea Shanties is a participatory choir project open to members of the community, who will come together to rehearse a collection of songs by renowned Australian singer-songwriter Fred Smith, whose songwriting has been praised by the public and critics alike for its humour, song-craft and story-telling prowess.
The Kingston Sea Shanties Choir will rehearse weekly on Saturdays, from 10am till 12.30pm, commencing 15 June, in preparation for a major public performance with Fred Smith and his four-piece band at Kingston City Hall on Saturday 7 September at 7.30pm.
Rehearsals are facilitated by Katrina Waters, choir leader of Mosaic Community Choir and Andrew Price from Men in Suits choir, with Fred joining in for several rehearsals at key junctures.
Participants must commit to attending at least 75% of rehearsals and be prepared to do additional work to learn songs outside of rehearsal. Music, lyrics and audio tracks to assist participants' learning will be made available via internet download. Music and lyrics and MP3 files will also be made available via email.
