What's your relationship to Kingston?
I lived in Kingston up to age 33. Returned to nearby Hampton 2 years ago.
Describe your art or craft practice in a few sentences
When friends come and go, when love is not realised, there is always painting.
Completed Fine Art degree in 1991. Worked as Studio assistant to Howard Arkley from 1989 to 1991. Have exhibited in group and solo exhibitions in Southwest Victoria over the years. Painting is integral to my life. Once I realised that art was not a vocation but vital to my well being, I became a better person.
do you have a favourite artist or artwork?
Ten artists I love include Gauguin, Guston, Hester, Matisse, Pollock, Broadhurst, Munch, Beckett and Nolan and Doig. Tomorrow I could list a different ten.
what was your first experience of art?
Art was my favourite subject at school. It melted time. Seeing Nolan's retrospective at the NGV in 1987 changed my life.
How has the current situation changed your approach to making art and running your arts group?
It has been my most productive year ever. I have produced many large scale paintings in a relatively short time and remind them of the better days to come.
What motivates your creative business or arts group?
For me, creating visual art is motivating.
What are you looking forward to after the pandemic?
Finding a gallery in which to exhibit my work in quality lighting.
