Kaleidoscope: School Holidays Arts Program

Back for its second year, Kaleidoscope is a school holiday arts program that seeks to encourage creativity through active learning, experimentation, artistic creation and fun.

Developed for 10–17 year olds, Kaleidoscope offers a series of workshops ranging from acting and improv, dance and music, to craft and visual arts to inspire every imagination.

MONDAY


Create a Comic Book with Rebel Stepz

Get ready for a whirlwind adventure in creativity as we dive into the colorful world of comic book creation. Embark on a journey through the fascinating history of comics, from the action-packed pages of superhero sagas to the captivating artistry of manga inspired graphic novels. Discover the secrets behind crafting dynamic characters, epic storylines, and captivating visuals that leap off the page. With expert guidance you will master essential drawing techniques, bringing their imagination to life one stroke at a time. From creating characters and developing stories, every budding artist will unlock their full potential in a supportive and inspiring environment. This workshop will see you drawing characters and mapping out intriguing plotlines that will bring your comic book story to life.

Make Your Own Pet Portrait Using Ink Stamps with Yan Yan Candy Ng
Join us for some stamp-tastic fun! Use ink stamps to bring your pet to life on paper, adding fun details and personality along the way. Don't have a pet? That's fine! Stamp your own portrait or someone you know! Watch your creation come to life with each stamp as you design your own furry friend masterpiece. Remember to wear something comfortable and/or bring an artist smock, apron or old shirt. All materials will be supplied by Kingston Arts.

Paint Your Own Motivation Mug with Yan Yan Candy Ng
Join us for a mug-tastic workshop filled with creativity and endless possibilities. Design your very own personalised mug to inspire you every day! Join illustrator Yan Yan Candy Ng as she sparks your imagination and leads you on a journey of creativity and self-expression. This workshop is sure to leave you with a one-of-a-kind mug that is as unique as you are. Remember to wear something comfortable and/or bring an artist smock, apron or old shirt. All materials will be supplied by Kingston Arts.

Move with Street Dance Studios
The dance floor is calling your name! Get ready to unleash your inner dance star and bust out some serious moves at Street Dance Studio's electrifying dance classes! Our dynamic instructor will guide you through a journey of funky beats and cool choreography creating an unforgettable experience on the dance floor. Don’t miss out — grab your friends, lace up your sneakers, and get ready to pop and lock like never before! Remember to wear comfortable clothes and closed shoes and bring a bottle of water.

Theatre-Making and Character Creation with Leone White
Learn to make characters come alive through your very own acting and discover the magic of theatre. Explore the world of your character with help from notable actress Leone White as well as learning some tips and tricks of the theatre.

Drawing the Everyday: A Fun Drawing Workshop with Artist Kenny Pittock
Join professional artist Kenny Pittock for an action-packed hour of drawing. Learn playful tips and tricks on how to make your own sketch book, and then how to fill it up with drawings of everything from your shoes to your toothbrush. You'll also make drawings of food that look good enough to eat, so come turn your master feast into a masterpiece! All materials will be provided by Kingston Arts. Fun for people of all skill levels.

Improv and Instant Acting with Rob Lloyd
Quick thinking and endless laughter collide for unforgettable storytelling adventures! Improvisation is the spontaneous creation of characters, scenes, and stories without preparation. It's a fun, creative process that relies on imagination and collaboration. Popularised by shows like Theatre Sports, Whose Line is it Anyway? and Thank God You're Here, improvisation may look difficult from the audience but like any artform, it just takes learning the specific techniques and skills. Remember to wear comfortable clothes and closed shoes and bring a bottle of water.

Beats and Decks for Beginners with DJ MzRizk
Become a mix master with DJ MzRizk! This beginner friendly DJ Workshop is the perfect opportunity for young music enthusiasts to learn the basics of DJing in a fun and interactive environment. Led by DJ MzRizk, you will discover how to create your own beats, mix tracks, and even scratch like a pro! With hands-on activities and plenty of rhythm-packed fun, this workshop is sure to ignite a passion for music in every young DJ-to-be.

Exploring Geometric Abstraction with Coloured Inks
Flow into the fun and create a vibrant masterpiece. Discover geometric abstraction in a hands-on workshop led by Miranda Sims. Learn principles and techniques to create intricate compositions using vibrant high pigment artist inks. Experiment with colours, mark making, and scale to create visually stunning artworks on paper.

Neo Pop Sculpture: Contemporary Creations Inspired by Iconic Culture
Immerse yourself in the Neo Pop Sculpture workshop led by Miranda Sims, where you will combine pop culture with sculptural methods using vibrant air-dry clay. Delve into a touch of pop art history with a creative spin to create your unique interpretations of iconic culture. Remember to wear something comfortable and/or bring an artist smock, apron or old shirt. All materials will be supplied by Kingston Arts.

Turn Up the Bass! with Big Racket Studios
Join us for this beginner friendly collaborative session and get hands-on sculpting sound, recording rhythms and building an original composition. Get started working with waveforms, tinkering with synthesisers, yelling into microphones and rocking out on hand-held percussion. No musical experience, no problem! Our instructors are experts in stepping you through a whole new world of sound, creativity and amazing happy accidents.

Musical Theatre Audition Bootcamp with Australian Musical Theatre Academy

Learn essential skills like singing, acting and dancing from seasoned professional Queenie van de Zandt and two of the stars of Mary Poppins, Jack Chambers (Bert) and Chelsea Plumley (Miss Andrews).  Spending the day learning scenes, songs and dance routines from well known musicals, this bootcamp will prepare you for any audition that comes your way. Boost your confidence, polish up your skills and get ready to step into the spotlight. Remember to wear comfortable clothes and closed shoes, and bring your lunch and a bottle of water.

Workshop: 9am–5pm Friday 12 April

Drumming Workshop with The Beat Factor
Calling all young rhythm enthusiasts! Discover the fun of percussion as you learn to create captivating beats and rhythms on a variety of drums. Led by experienced musician Rod Pilois in a fun and interactive environment, this workshop will have you marching to the beat of everyone's drum!
