Artist Statement

“The exhibition relates to my practical worldly reflection. This includes physical things, people, objects and environment. This body of work showcases portraits of self, precious people in my world and their worldly matters, still-life paintings with objects and arrangements that have attracted my attention and interest and landscapes that I visit over and over again in order to stay in touch with nature and myself.”

About the Artist

Pilar de la Torre is a contemporary realist artist living and working in Melbourne, Victoria. Her passion is drawing and painting from life, mainly in oil and watercolour across all genres, portrait, figure, interiors, still life and landscape. Pilar has been a finalist in numerous awards including Lethbridge 20000, Bluethumb Prize, SBS Portrait Prize, Kennedy Art Prize, AME Bale Travelling Scholarship, including the drawing and painting Prize. She was also the Australian selected representative to the Russian Academy of Art, Saint Petersburg 2019.
