Claudio Mantuano
With this piece, I aim to evoke a sense of nostalgia—distant memories or a forgotten dream—leaving room for interpretation. I chose this night scene for its atmospheric lighting, where streetlights selectively illuminate objects, adding intrigue and a dreamlike quality. A sense of mystery emerges when forms are only partially revealed, allowing the imagination to fill in the blanks. The iconic Victoria Bitter neon sign, floating in the dusky sky, acts as a secondary character, supporting the protagonist while its actual words become irrelevant. The landscape, the lighting, that moment between day and night—when it is neither one nor the other—the young woman’s sombre expression… I hope these elements create a mood that invites the viewer to reflect on her journey, her past, her future, and the challenges she may be facing.
