Japanese furoshiki fabric gift wrapping

Join us for this fun class to discover the art of furoshiki: Japan’s elegant tradition of fabric gift wrapping that mixes creativity with sustainability. 

In this class we will learn a variety of techniques to wrap everyday items from gifts and bottles to bags and personal belongings, using double sided cloths designed for this purpose. 

This class includes a wrapping cloth to take home. 

This workshop will cover: 

  • the history of furoshiki
  • materials and double-sided cloths
  • techniques for wrapping and bow-tying.

Please bring a box or item around 20cm or so to wrap. We will have some boxes available as well. 

Who will be teaching?

Qing (she/her) has been creating her own art and jewellery projects for over 15 years, during which she designed custom projects and taught her skills to people of all age groups.  

Her favourite mediums to work with are paper, fabric and shiny beads; items allowing the freedom for bold and detailed work alike. 

This workshop is a part of our Laneway Learning program.
