Refugee Week 2026 Film Screening: A Good Lie

Next date: Tuesday, 16 June 2026 | 06:30 PM to 09:00 PM

Three Sudanese boys, one with a stick walk through tall golden grass on an open savannah toward a lone tree.

In celebration of Refugee Week, the City of Kingston will screen The Good Lie, a poignant film that follows the journey of Sudanese refugees, known as the ‘Lost Boys’ as they flee their war-torn homeland and seek a new life in America.

The film presents the challenges and hopes of the boys and sheds light on the real experiences of refugees affected by the civil war in Sudan.

Light refreshments will be served from 6:30pm. Film screening at 7pm after a welcome by Kingston Mayor, Cr Georgina Oxley.

About Refugee Week

Refugee Week is Australia’s peak annual activity to promote greater awareness of refugees, the issues they face, and the contributions refugees make to the Australian community. In 2026, Refugee Week will be held from 14 June to 20 June. A Million Stories is this year’s theme, marking the milestone of Australia granting one million permanent humanitarian visas since the program began in 1947, in the aftermath of World War II. Refugee Week 2026 is a moment to reflect on that milestone and to celebrate the million stories behind it.

Presented by City of Kingston.
