Artist Kerry Liang makes vibrant, colourful paintings based on her photographs of iconic places, people and moments in time.
During Liang's residency, she will explore physical locations within the City of Kingston through her lens of childhood and personal memories. Translating her photography into a vividly coloured series of semi-abstract acrylic paintings, Liang will use kaleidoscopic patterns and shapes to express her emotional connection to the area.
Beyond locating place in her work, Liang imbues an emotional dimension and adjoining memory. She wants to delight the viewer with the kaleidoscope of colour, laid strategically in patterns, dots and line for impact. Liang explores colour theory and combination in her work, influenced by the Fauvist palette and the Impressionists’ use of pure colour to depict light, shadow, and atmosphere in nature.
