Taking inspiration from the transformative life cycle of the Monarch butterfly, artists Mike Makatron and Damien Vick partnered to create a set of murals and sculptures reflect the renewal of Horscroft Place Pocket Park, a space that has itself undergone significant change.
The murals by Mike Makatron, titled The Butterfly Renewal, take inspiration from Australian flora and depict the progressive stages of the Monarch butterfly’s rebirth. Complementing the murals, The Monarchs sculptures by Damian Vick continue the narrative, adding a playful dimension to the space as the butterflies emerge from their chrysalides to bask in the sun.
The Horscroft Place Pocket Park was developed by the City of Kingston in partnership with the Victorian Government through the Suburban Parks Program.
