Artist Julie Squires spent considerable time consulting with brothers Joe and the late Jack Pompei regarding the kind of boat that has become synonymous with the Pompei style of hand-made boat construction. The work has become an iconic landmark in Mordialloc at the gateway to the southern coastal suburbs of Melbourne.
Pompei's Boat is located on the northern end of Pompei Bridge (where Main St goes over Mordialloc Creek.) If driving, go through the Main St, Beach Rd roundabout, and continue toward Mordialloc Creek. Pompei's boar will be on your left as you go over the bridge. If walking, there is a pedestrian footpath that goes over the bridge, you can find Pompei's Boat on the left side of the Bridge, if walking away from Main st, toward Mordialloc Creek. Opposite Hazel Pierce Reserve and the Mordialloc Cenotaph.
