Expressions of Interest (EOI) to exhibit in our 2027 exhibition program have now closed. Applications to exhibit in 2028 will open mid-late 2027.

Our exhibition spaces include three indoor galleries, an Outdoor Lightbox Gallery and a nightly Skybridge projection space, showcasing contemporary art by artists from the City of Kingston, across Victoria and interstate. 

Applications must be submitted via the online form under 'Submit your application' on this page.

What Kingston Arts offers successful applicants:

  • an eight-week, professionally presented exhibition
  • curatorial, installation and invigilation support
  • promotion
  • some exhibition equipment and infrastructure 
  • celebration event
  • an artist fee

Applicants do not need to pay a fee to apply/exhibit at Kingston Arts. We welcome applications for solo, group and curated exhibitions.

Application timeline

  • Applications open: 7 August, 2026
  • Applications close: 7 September (11.59pm), 2026
  • Artists selected: September to October, 2026
  • All applicants notified: by end of October, 2026
  • For exhibitions commencing: from mid-January, 2027

Application Requirements and Selection criteria

Application Requirements via the online form under 'How to Apply'

  • Exhibition Title
  • Short summary statement (50 words max)
  • Exhibition Proposal (250 words max)
  • Installation Plan (what and how you intend to exhibit, eg: 10 paintings with D-rings hung on screws interspersed throughout walls)
  • Special Equipment Requirements (if applicable)
  • Artist/Curator statement (200 words max)
  • Artist/s (and Curator’s) CVs (uploaded)
  • Support material (minimum 5 – 10 images uploaded as one combined file); video files/links (optional)
  • Proposed associated public program (optional)
  • Layout/Floorplan (optional)

Applications that address one or more of the following criteria will be considered favourably:

  • well-considered, inclusive and accessible proposals
  • proposals by under-represented community members
  • showcase new and/or experimental work
  • artistic merit

What is offered to and required of successful applicants

What Kingston Arts can offer successful applicants:

  • Kingston Arts (Kingston City Council) will pay successful applicants $1,400 per exhibition space offered. (ie: group proposals can apply to use two or more exhibition spaces, and therefore be eligible to receive the combined payment for two or more exhibition spaces).This fee is a fixed fee inclusive of all costs and payments associated with the Applicant creating and delivering the exhibition (but is exclusive of GST).
  • An 8 week, professionally presented exhibition
  • Curatorial support
  • Professional installation support
  • Access to existing exhibition furniture & equipment including: media players, TV screens, projectors, truss tower, and plinths. (Equipment availability is limited. Please consult with KAC staff regarding your requirements, prior to submitting your application.)
  • Invigilation of the gallery for the duration of the exhibition during standard opening hours
  • Exhibition and associated event promotion (eg. Exhibition Celebration, public program), including e-newsletters, dedicated webpage, and social media
  • Exhibition signage
  • Artwork labels/roomsheet (optional) containing list of artworks, prices, and artist contact details (if applicable for sale)
  • Exhibition celebration event staffed by KA and volunteers
  • Provision of refreshments and nibbles at Exhibition Celebration event
  • Static Artwork Insurance coverage for the duration of the exhibition including install and de-install

Successful applicants will be responsible for the following:

  • Enter into an Agreement with Kingston Arts (Kingston City Council) which sets out the requirements of the arrangement and Exhibition.
  • Artwork delivery & collection, incl. packing & materials
  • Artworks must be delivered ready to install with professional fixtures.
  • Assisting gallery staff to design and install exhibition.
  • Providing information for promotional material no later than eight weeks prior to the exhibition.
  • Providing list of works & values; content for artwork labels/promotion/roomsheet, etc.
  • Sales of any artworks. (KA does not take commission)
  • Any specialised equipment or display requirements that KA does not already have in stock, in particular specialised audio-visual equipment, artwork mounts etc.
  • Providing artwork/exhibition operating procedures (eg. for AV/Sound works)
  • Transit Artwork insurance to and from venue
  • Hold current public liability insurance cover to the value of $20 million (or Artist/s may apply to Council to purchase public liability insurance under the Council’s existing insurance policy. Insurance coverage is not guaranteed).

We encourage applications from a diverse range of artists from across spectrums of ability, age, cultural background, gender identity and sexual orientation. We welcome practitioners from all fields of contemporary art including sculpture, installation, moving image, painting, drawing, textiles, digital media, sound, photography, and live art.

Exhibition spaces at Kingston Arts

G1 Gallery, Kingston Arts Centre

G2 Gallery, Kingston Arts Centre

  • Includes 'The Vault' (multimedia room) - approx 3.4 x 2.1 m. Featuring black walls and carpet, projector, audio, screen, ceiling hanging points, track lighting system. (For use as either 'black box' projection space, or to display static artworks on floor/plinth, or from ceiling.)

G3 Artspace, Shirley Burke Theatre

Outdoor Lightbox Gallery, Kingston Arts Precinct

Location: 979-985 Nepean Highway, Moorabbin

Visible: 24 hours, 7 days a week 


Artwork files required to suit the following dimensions:

  • 2 x artworks at 1980mm W x 1490mm H (visible area 1800mm W x 1320mm H)
  • 4 x artworks at 1180mm W x 1490mm H (visible area 1000mm W x 1320mm H)
  • 1 x artworks at 1290mm W x 890mm H (visible area 1260mm W x 860 mm H)
  • 2 x artwork at 890mm W x1290mm H (visible area 860mm W x 1260mm H)

Exhibition files to be supplied as high quality PDFs, to the above dimensions, at 300 dpi. To be printed and installed by Kingston Arts, on high quality print stock.

Skybridge, Kingston Arts Precinct

Location: 979-985 Nepean Highway, Moorabbin. Skybridge is located on the south side of City Hall, connected to 999 Nepean Highway

Operating: 5 pm to 7 am daily. Visible from sunset to sunrise. 

Standard Specifications:

  • three-channel rear projections
  • 3 x EPSON EB-700U short-throw projectors integrated with Brightsign media player and software
  • duration no more than 10 minutes
  • video and animation files are generally prepared at 24fps as a guide. This can be changed depending on the project and style of your video.
  • GIFs can be prepared at alternative frame rates per second. Please remember that glitch or strobe-light simulated media can be a health and safety risk to viewers and may not be suitable
  • Files are required to be one video file at 5760 x 1080 resolution and exported at H2.254 in .mp4 or .mov format (5760 x 1080 is three 1080p screens side by side)
