Sashiko visible mending

Next date: Monday, 04 May 2026 | 06:30 PM to 08:00 PM

Three mended patches on a pair of blue jeans

Being able to mend our clothes is a valuable skill that can serve us throughout life. Whether it’s repairing that denim jacket, darning some woolly socks, reinforcing elbows or the dreaded crotch mend, mending gives our favourite items of clothing extra life, longevity and memories.

Sometimes subtlety is key, but other times it’s go big or go home! Why not mend visibly, colourfully, playfully and beautifully! Without a doubt, when other’s see your visible repairs, they’ll ask how you did it.

In this visible mending class Robyn focuses on clothes mending using the Japanese mending style of Sashiko Boro. It’s not that tricky, and well worth learning!

This workshop will cover:

  • a brief history of Sashiko Boro and its principles
  • traditional fabrics, threads and dyes
  • different Sashiko patterns.

This class suits absolute beginners.  All tools provided, but bring in an item to get to work on. It could be an item of clothing, or a torn tote bag. Or you can learn and practice with sample fabric/a patch if needed.

Who will be teaching?
