Zardozi Metal Indian Embroidery

Zardozi is the most ornate embroidery from the Mughal era in India. Traditionally this embroidery was done using pure gold and silver threads along with real gemstones. The garments were heavy and were only worn by royals.
In this workshop you will create a sample using various metallic embroidery materials. You will explore some techniques that are used by European couture houses even today.
This workshop will cover:
- history of Zardozi embroidery
- different stitches, motifs, and fabrics
- sewing basics
- sewing your own piece of zardozi.

Who will be teaching?
Manjari (she/her) is a trained Fashion Designer with vast experience in Indian textiles and embroideries. After working in the fashion industry for over a decade, she has been running her own handmade children’s clothing label, Bubble For Poppet, for the past eight years.
This workshop is a part of our Laneway Learning program.
