Refugee Week 2025 - Batoor: A Refugee Journey

In celebration of Refugee Week, the City of Kingston will screen the acclaimed documentary, Batoor: A Refugee Journey. The film will be introduced by the film maker, Barat Ali Batoor, a multi-award-winning documentary photographer and filmmaker. Kingston Mayor, Cr Georgina Oxley will welcome attendees. 

The film documents Barat’s journey to Australia after fleeing persecution in his homeland of Afghanistan. The film also explores the lives of asylum seekers Barat meets on his journey.

Refugee Week (Sunday 15 June to Saturday 21 June) is Australia’s peak annual activity to promote greater awareness of refugees, the issues they face, and the contributions refugees make to the Australian community. 

5.30pm to 6pm Light Refreshments
6pm to 8pm Welcome speech by Mayor, Film Introduction by film maker and Film screening

The film is recommended for a mature audience.
