Felted mushrooms

Next date: Monday, 10 August 2026 | 06:30 PM to 08:00 PM

A bunch of felted cream mushroom with red and cream spotted tops against a dark fabric background

Needle felting is the simple process of turning loose wool into a solid felt using a barbed needle. It’s a very easy craft which doesn’t require extensive equipment. You can make toys, ornaments and decorations – a very fun and cosy hobby for Melbourne’s chilly months!

In this beginner class, we’ll be learning to dry felt cute mushrooms. You can choose your own colour combinations and personalise your mushroom, while learning the two basic structures that 3D needle felting relies upon – circles and logs.

Make one, or a few. All materials are provided to get started, including needles and felting block to take home.

This workshop will cover:

  • the basics of needle felting
  • different tools, materials and their purposes
  • the two basic forms for 3D object felting
  • ideas and examples for future projects
  • where to source materials/resources.

All tools are provided, but please bring in an item to get to work on. We suggest clean worn-out socks or something with worn elbows. Or you can learn and practice with sample fabric provided. No sewing experience necessary.
