Japanese shibori dyeing
Next date: Monday, 17 August 2026 | 06:30 PM
to 08:00 PM
Shibori is a traditional Japanese style of decorative dyeing; similar to tie-dye but also a bit more intentional. In this class we’ll be combining shibori dyeing with sashiko embroidery to create lovely stitches and patterns.
By combining art and textiles, you will stitch your own patterns to be transformed through the dyeing process. We’ll be dyeing cotton tote bags so your creative work can be both functional and shown off every day.
In this class Robyn will help you design, prepare, stitch and dye.
This class doesn’t require any sewing experience.
This workshop will cover:
- the history of sashiko and shibori – materials, uses, ingredients
- preparing fabrics, including basic sewing stitch and pattern making
- preparing dye
-
dyeing process.
All tools and materials provided to create a Shibori dyed tote bag.
