Phulkari embroidery for beginners
Next date: Monday, 20 July 2026 | 06:30 PM
to 08:00 PM
Phulkari is a traditional style of embroidery from the Punjab region. While it literally means ‘flower work’, it’s also recognisable for its neat geometric patterns.
These patterns are created on thick cotton using silken or cotton threads, in a technique that covers the top of the fabric (not so much the reverse side).
If you ever visit the markets of Amritsar, they are full of phulkari items, each telling a story of Punjab’s rich heritage.
All materials will be provided. Basic sewing experience can be helpful but not necessary as the stitches are simple and easy to follow.
This workshop will cover:
- the history of phulkari embroidery
- different stitches, motifs and fabrics
- sewing basics
- sewing your own piece of phulkari.
