Silver Pendant: Lost Wax Casting

Next date: Monday, 23 February 2026 | 06:30 PM to 08:00 PM

Three small silver pendants

This is a two-part class taking place 6:30 - 8:00pm on Monday 23 February and Monday 2 March (fee covers both classes).

Come and make your own silver pendant over two classes using the “lost wax casting” technique. You can make a delicate, fine pendant or something chunky and layered. Please note, the chain is not included.

In the first week, you will shape your wax into an exact version of your desired pendant. This involves delicately cutting and shaping your wax into your own unique design, ready for casting.

In between classes your teacher will have your piece cast into sterling silver. A cast is set around the wax and molten sterling silver is injected into it, melting the wax away (hence ‘lost wax’) and filling its space with sterling silver to create an exact version of your original wax design.

In the second week we will smooth, file, polish and finish off our silver pieces. You will have the option to oxidise your piece if you prefer an aged look.

This workshop will cover:

  • how to use the tools and waxes
  • the dos and don’ts of casting
  • the fundamentals of how to make a wearable piece of jewellery
  • how to make 2D and 3D designs
  • how to buff and shine your pendant
  • local suppliers for chains, tools and jewellery fixings.

Feel free to come with some inspiration images of styles of pendants that you like. We will also have examples for inspiration.

The silver included in the cost will allow you to create a round or square piece about 2/3cm wide like in the image at the top of this event listing.

Who will be teaching?
Qing (she/her) has been creating her own art and jewellery projects for over 15 years, during which she created custom projects and taught her skills to people of all age groups.

Her favourite mediums to work with are paper, fabric and shiny beads; items allowing the freedom to do bold and detailed work alike.

This workshop is a part of our Laneway Learning program.
