Make a Zine about Antarctica

Next date: Friday, 04 September 2026 | 06:00 PM to 08:00 PM

A green cutting board, blank pages of white paper, scissors, a glue stick as well as the cover of a National Geographic magazine (showing an iceberg), a postcard sized photograph of an iceberg and a page torn from an advertisement for a trip to Antarctica (featuring an iceberg).

Create your own artist's zine inspired by Antarctica in this hands-on workshop with exhibiting artist Elizabeth Cole.

In 1908, Sir Ernest Shackleton's Nimrod expedition produced the first book printed in Antarctica. Aurora Australis blended fact and fiction, using printed text and etchings to capture the team's experience in this alien yet alluring landscape.

Drawing on this remarkable achievement, exhibiting artist Elizabeth Cole will lead this workshop, guiding you to create your own personalised zine. Using collage, stencils, stamps and other mark-making techniques, you'll be inspired by your own real or imagined interpretation of Antarctica.

Wear clothes that can get messy. If you have any, bring your own photos or magazine clippings of Antarctica to use in your collage or as inspiration.
